It’s been a long road for I Call Fives, but the band has finally released their debut record via Pure Noise Records. We’re stoked to be teaming up with the band today to post a Track-By-Track explanation behind the record on PropertyOfZack for those who have interest in knowing more about the album. Check all the details out below!
Late Nights
This song is about feeling like you’re just being strung along in a relationship. It’s the constant theme throughout the song and the chorus basically offers an ultimatum in that it’s time for the person to fix their problems, or you’re done with them. I wrote the riff to this one day sitting in the van before we played someone’s garage in Texas, it reminded me of a bit from our friends old band called Eyes on the Prize, for a while the working title was “EOTP.”
Obvious
Feeling like you’re wasting your time and falling behind in life is what this song is really about. Sometimes when you see things are going to shit you still try to stay afloat and to find a solution, but sometimes it’s better to just cut the ties and let go. “It all comes down to the fact you can’t admit when you’re wrong” is the standout line to me in the song, it’s basically about dealing with people that have constantly fucked up and never wanting to step up to that. In the past 6 years for me these lyrics apply and inspired the line. Some people don’t deserve a second chance, some people don’t deserve anything.
Backup Plan
Backup plan is basically about what the song is titled: feeling like you’re someone’s plan b. Nobody wants to feel like they’re just being kept around but it can happen and that’s just how things work. My favorite line in the song is “You’re fake, fucked, and boring. The same as all your friends.” This song is one of the oldest songs on the record, the rhythm to this was written in the summer of 2010.
The Fall Guy
This song sort of combines a lot of the themes throughout the album. Some people just never grow up and show maturity and their actions make that pretty clear. Having to make up for peoples lack of hard work, lack of effort, and just general lack of sensibility. It’s a really negative situation and that’s what the song is about. This is another song that I really thought on the past 6 years on and put them into this song. I’m not sorry for a word I said on this full length, I’m not mad about how things panned out..if it weren’t for the past, I don’t know what this album would have been about.
I Call Fives will be doing a run of dates across the United States in support of their brand new full length. This run will follow the band’s stint on the Vans Warped Tour. Dates and details are in the admat.
